Tuija Lampinen Ääriviivalla

On an Outline
2.3.-23.3.2025

“In my previous works, I have dealt with memories; the surprise of the child’s observations, his thoughts about his own identity, the memory of an elderly person and the loss of memory, the feeling of being outside.

Time, the passage of time, movement and the color gray are also central to my current works. Observations of the environment that is changing, withered flowers, dead stems and leaves of flowers and various plants, driftwood, decorative forms of mosses and lichens. Time passes and memories are activated. The world around us is in chaos and it also affects what we do. Traces of different processes remain in the following paintings. The scale varies, the importance of small things increases.

In my work, I aim for the momentary. Sometimes the paint mark is light and thin, sometimes stronger. Momentaryness involves a whole range of emotions. At this moment, it is very difficult not to think about the future. The areas delimited by the contours depict something familiar and unknown. My work is an understanding of time, its meaning and the opportunity it brings to be right here and now.

The work “The Journey of Souls” consists of small oil paintings that are glued to boards sawn to shape. The cycle travels forward together with figures of different colors and shapes. Life goes in cycles, from day to day, month to month, season to season. Movement carries the eye, the cycle continues…

The exhibition “Ääriviivalla” in Taidehalli Häme is open on March 2. – 23 March 2025. The color gray is the object of my interest year after year 😊. All works are oil paintings on canvas, some of which were completed during 2024.”
