“My work plan changed due to the gloom of the world situation, and the legs, hands and human images that appeared in the works were finally shaped into landscapes. My works have been created without looking for anything — using accidents, damage and slips of the brush.

Even though my aim was away from performance, there are still stories in my works. About houses, homes and broken everyday life, but also joy and happiness to be alive. The painting builds from the memory of the previous one, and foggy, uncertain thoughts take shape. Was it a protective wing or just a wave that hit the shore?

My colors are exuberant. My hand rotates the brush, the mark is a circular loop sometimes becoming violently striking.”

Tiina Nevalainen (b. 1967 Helsinki) lives and works in Riihimäki. She is a color painter who moves between performing and non-performing one entirety at a time. Painting starts from personal experiences, from the bubbling chaos in the head, from preventing depression, turning into the voice of reason; structured light for all who need it.
