We live in an age where war of aggression is a reality in Europe. Russia’s violent and brutal attack on Ukraine has permanently changed its sense of European security and its thoughts on the meaning of the future. This change will have an undeniable impact on all of us and we now have to rethink our past and its implications for the future.
Art is one means of reacting to historically constructed strata and expressing the meanings and changes between them. Reflection is the ability to reflect on events and their meanings. Man is able to learn exceptionally fast and versatile. This requires a person to take a certain position on their experiences. This attitude can be called reflection.
The exhibition Under the Breathable Creations has been based on two paintings from the works of OUR CHOICE exhibition at the Hämeenlinna Art Museum: Venny Soldan-Brofeldt’s Resting Woman on the Grass in the Late 1910s. reflect through the means of contemporary art.
The video works of the master’s students of the Department of Film Arts at Aalto University have been implemented in connection with the Masters course.
The name of the exhibition Under the Breathable Creations refers to a poem by Paul Celan, a poet who survived the Holocaust.
The exhibition has been co-organized by Ars-Häme ry and the Hämeenlinna Art Museum
