DANS LES LIMBES – IN LIMBO*
A better person, an eternal dream: smarter, healthier, sexier – each decade has so far seemed to bring us closer to the ideal person. And now it has finally been done: artificial intelligence. The promise of immortality. Faster, with a better memory, capable of programming a rocket to Mars and a shopping list, in addition to which it can read and write, paint and design houses. Soon we will have fetuses improved by genetic scissors used by artificial intelligence, in which a microchip will be installed at birth for all kinds of monitoring.

Be an optimist, a humanist or a utopian! But: with today’s technology, we can feed the whole world, guarantee a basic income and the rational and equitable use of natural resources, stop global warming, and guarantee education and access to the common knowledge of all humanity everywhere and for everyone. We can connect with each other in the blink of an eye and form communities regardless of geographical distance, plan a revolution, start a store or publish a book.

What is stopping us? The path to the realization of utopias is the lust for power of a few, mainly white, Western men who master new technologies. These men have unfortunately had too much fun with a shovel in a sandbox and now want to destroy the whole world. Our women’s bodies are once again being returned to slavery, to give birth to soldiers and to satisfy the needs of men. Our appearance has already been dictated by fashion, and now we can even influence the content, i.e. 3D printing of various organs. Our thinking is already guided by a constant stream of images and entertainment, and it won’t be long before we get to chip implants.

The works in my exhibition deal with the body and the intellect, searching for the soul in dead matter and wandering somewhere there, in limbo (limbo: a place where innocent souls are temporarily before reaching heaven). Welcome to walk the land of doubt with me.

*Limbo (from the Latin limbus, “edge, limit”) is a state of the afterlife located on the edge of hell. In a broader sense, limbo is an indefinite intermediate state.”
