“The machine of good and evil is a sculptural allegory of the world, the progress of time and life. Through this machine, every person must pass. In the machine, the wheels of good and evil spin forward with an irresistible force. A person is transported by these forces from birth to death, crushed, flagging, walking, giving thanks. Feeling happiness , unhappiness, love, anger, indifference — that is, all the nuances of life. The pace of the machine is slow but inexorable. It irresistibly carries the person caught in it forward towards something that he still knows nothing about.
A story or narrative is integrally connected to my works, through which I try to understand this cycle of life. Through my works, I feel that I am a small part of the art tradition of storytelling. I take the viewer inside the installation as an experiencer.
‘The Machine of Good and Evil’ is an installation consisting of five sculptures, three of which are on display at Taidehalli Hämee: ‘Clips of Light’, ‘The Big Spinner’ and ‘The Huge Player’. The works are illuminated with an impressionistic video image, where change, light, movement, color and shadow play the main role.
I shot the footage during the years 2022 and 2023. Kaisa Lenkkeri and Tatu Heinämäki have edited the video lighting from this material.
The completion of the works and the exhibition have been supported by:
