Petteri Cederberg
Nearly human
29.10.-22.11.2022

The exhibition features paintings made on a primed wooden board.

In the paintings, I consider the person as a psychophysical entity. In my works, I depict posthuman beings that move on the border of a human form and something else. However, human forms can also be found in the characters.

The characters in the works are documents about people’s hidden character traits and personalities located in the middle ground between the unreal and the real world. I want to show a person’s external and internal image simultaneously merged into each other.

For the past couple of years, I have drawn only black and white pictures, but during the making of this exhibition I decided to use color again. As a result, I ended up with very extreme color combinations. After a long color fast, using colors feels fresh and liberating.

Petteri Cederberg (b.1976 Espoo) is a visual artist working in Helsinki. His works reflect on the unconscious side of the human mind and the subconscious logic of the brain. Cederberg mainly works with animation and painting. He approaches his animations as living paintings or drawings instead of traditional cinema and its narrative expression. The animations describe the painting process with its successes and failures.

Cederberg graduated with a master’s degree in fine arts from the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in 2011 and is a member of the Norwegian Association of Painters. He held several solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. His works include e.g. for example in the collections of the State of Finland, Helsinki Art Museum and Jyväskylä. Animation works have been shown at several international film festivals.

The exhibition has been supported by the Art Promotion Center.
