Emptiness has become a starting point of the works presented in the exhibition. Pirjetta Brander is following the pattern of ancient stories about world creation in her works. There is darkness at first, then light and reflection. In other words: at first there is an emptiness, then a point and a line from which the image gradually develops.

The artist has looked at the subjects and drawn them as accurately as possible. This method helped her to reach the core of things.

The subjects of the works are plants and the structures of undergrowth. The technique of the works is a traditional method of graphics, a drypoint, in which the images are engraved with a sharp plotter directly on a copper plate. The imprint is surprising, toned and accurate.

Point and line at a time, the world has rebuilt. A new worldview has emerged. By doing the works, Brander has proved that emptiness effervesces life.

The exhibition includes works created in collaboration with graphic artist Janne Laine. They consist of graphic tiles made separately by two artists. The unique works are composed, like classical scientific illustrations, into entities in which the roots, stems, leaves, inflorescences, fruits, and seeds of the plants appear in the image simultaneously. Parts of different species of plants have been inoculated into hybrids during the pruning stage.

In addition, there are ink paintings showing chickens Utu, Hertta, Big Mama, Kaneli and rooster Tarmo.

Pirjetta Brander has been a freelance artist since 1995 and has participated in dozens of exhibitions, art events and festivals worldwide. The artist creates drawings, paintings, graphics, animations and sculptures. She has collaborated on a wide range of projects with artists in various fields. Brander’s most important solo exhibitions are Village, MAC/VAL Museum, France 2008, and Flowers of Evil, Taidehalli, Helsinki 2012. Her works are in several Finnish and French collections. Throughout the career Brander was curating such art events as Mänttä Fine Arts Week 2017.  She founded a sculpture yard and a guest house in the center of Mänttä for artists in 2020. Brander organized a summer exhibition of twelve artists in the sculpture yard on the theme Camping in 2021. In the summer of 2022 the exhibition theme remains the same and the quantity of participants increases up to thirty artists.  A music event FESTARI will be organized next to the summer exhibition.
