“Fear and guilt are difficult to verbalize emotional feelings, and their intensity or impact is also more difficult to describe than physical feelings, pain or hunger, which have a form. The exhibition aims to describe these feelings by constructing a form for them, rationalizing them and making them subject to criticism with the help of aesthetic experience.”

– Simo Ripatti

Simo Ripatti (b. 1975) is a visual artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2011. His work aims to draw attention to the significance of space, work, perception and its temporality as builders of experience. Ripatti’s expression is quite stripped down, quiet and sparse, and the effect of his works is often based on subtlety and, to some extent, surprise. Although the work is inevitably a description presented by the mind and, for example, distancing it to a mere shadow emphasizes the conceptual idea of the work, the goal is to have as direct a relationship to reality as possible. There is a lot of symbolism associated with everyday actions, it highlights the irreplaceable importance of memories in human life.
